Zürcher Hochschule der Künste - Department Dance


The dance department, as an independent department of the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, offers professional training (Waganowa/Tarrassow system) for professional dancers in courses of six semesters; studies are structured into lower, basic, main and higher grades. The diploma in stage dancing has been recognised by the Canton of Zurich since February 2003. A post-graduate course in education is available for qualified dancers to train to be teachers in artistic dancing in addition to their profession.

  • Admittance: 14 years of age, subject to passing entry exam
  • School fees: main study from 14 years of age
    • 1st – 2nd semester CHF 1,000/semester
    • 3rd – 8th semester CHF 1,150/semester
    • higher study from 18 years of age CHF 1,150/semester
  • Academic schools: Art and sports school (K + S Secondary school/Gymnasium) for a limited number of participants, having passed entrance exam

Zürcher Hochschule der Künste - Department Music


The range of subjects of the worldwide famous Music Department includes music education (classic and jazz), interpretation/performance, music theory, composition as well as conducting. Additional training in music and movement/ rhythmic is offered. Different possibilities of choice allow the about 700 students to compose their individual study profile. In addition the number of students give the opportunity of an orchestra instruction. Particular focus is put on consolidation in ancient und contemporary music as well as computer music.

The only Swiss nationwide college in its kind the HKB combines a variety of artistic subjects under one roof and establishes programmatic main focuses. The range of subjects includes diploma and post diploma studies in the field of design, art, conservation und restoration, music, literature and theatre. Scuola Teatro Dimitri - Verscio/TI

Founded in 1975 by Dimitri the theatre school is a department of the University of Applied Sciences of South Switzerland Scuola universitaria professionale della Svizzera italiana (SUPSI). The vocational school of physical theatre offers a unique basic training for the movement theatre in all major subjects in Europe. The focus of the study, a three-year full-time program, is the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and offers the possibility of a 1 1/2 years graduate studies for the Master of Arts in Theatre. The Department of Research and Development deals with issues of the movement theatre relevant to each other.

  • Admission after compulsory school attendance and the passed entrance examination

A renowned training centre for professional stage dancing with focus on classical-academic dancing with good training in other disciplines of stage dancing. Structured into preparatory, junior and elementary, and theatre classes for appropriately gifted children and adolescents from 10 to 18 years old. Offers comprehensive, technically based professional training in stage dancing in both of the main disciplines of classical and contemporary dancing during a three or six year training period from the age of 12 to maximum 20 years of age, and includes preparation for school leaving certificates (Baccalaureate). Boarding facilities and general, academic school teaching are an integral part of the training.

  • Admittance: 12 to 15 years of age, subject to passing entry exam
  • School fees: € 400/semester, student health insurance: € 186/year, on-site residency for minors (internat): € 500 euros/month incl. breakfast and dinner, cafeteria lunch: € 2.75

As the only school in Italy, the Paolo Grassi offers syllabus’s of training of all important professional forms in the area of theatre and live performances. Here, the future actors, directors, literary and artistic directors, dancer choreographers, organizers and stage technicians study and work together: in addition, to deepen the particular subjects of the respective fields, every student takes part at seminar and practical workshops in which colleagues of different trends of art participate as well. By this type of work, the students develop the capacity to work in a team and learn to share with colleagues all phases from the creative process to the stage realization of a project.
