The Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation organises 11 years of Swiss audition for the
Rotterdam Dance Academy, Netherlands

After a visit in 1999 to Ciska van Dijk-de Bloeme, director of the Rotterdam Dance Academy, the project of an annual Swiss Audition for young, firstly Swiss dance students in the field of contemporary dance, who are seeking for a professional training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, was created on the initiative of Daniela Marcacci Ambrosoli, president of the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation. The Swiss Audition should help the candidates to avoid the financial expenses of a trip to Rotterdam while also laying a Swiss platform for an internationally recognized contemporary dance training.

The first audition took place on 13th and 14th May 2000 with 21 candidates for training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy at the Stadttheater Bern. Eef de Kiviet for classical dance and Raymond Esterhuizen for contemporary dance were the first teachers of the Rotterdam Dance Academy who taught at the audition. From the beginnings, the pianist Brian Gill, Zurich, was an essential part of the audition.

Over the past eleven years the number of participants grew continuously up to 50 candidates and soon became also very popular for participants from abroad. A total of 88 candidates from 14 countries received an invitation to training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy of which the following persons were given scholarships by the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation, therefore, succeeded in training at the Rotterdam Dance Academy and could start a career as a result:

  • Alexander Carbonaro, AUS/IT: Dansateliers Rotterdam, De Dutch Don’t Dance Division, Amsterdam
  • Linda Neruda, CH/CZ: RAZ dance company in Tilburg, Netherlands
  • Werner Nigg, CH: 2005 dance-company internship Kuobi Herve, France, choreographer / dancer in Denmark, Germany, Italy, creative artist Graubünden
  • Andrea Schärli,, CH: scientist in the field of motion and sports
  • Jeanine Schmid, CH: Czerner Dance Company, Konstanz
  • Jasmine Morand, CH: international choreographer, director Prototype status Cie


In 2003, the Swiss Audition took place in the Tanzhaus Wasserwerk in Zurich for organizational reasons. Since 2006, the dance and yoga Studio akar could be found with its beautiful facilities in Bern, which resulted in an excellent collaboration with Annemarie and Amita Parekh.

 

The Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation wishes to thank in particular Samuel Wuersten, since 2001 artistic director of the Rotterdam Dance Academy and Chairman of the Jury of the Swiss Audition, and the teachers at the Rotterdam Dance Academy who contributed by their classes to enable a professional basis for the selection of candidates.
